RAND COMMERCIAL SERVICES VICE PRESIDENT PAUL ADLER
TO PRESENT “HOLLYWOOD ON THE HUDSON” AT DEC. 11 RIVERTALK
New City, N.Y. (Dec. 6, 2010) – Paul Adler, Rand Commercial Services (RCS) Vice President and Executive Vice President of Hudson River Stage, will discuss “Hollywood on the Hudson”, an overview of movies made at One Point Street on the Yonkers riverfront, otherwise known as the Hudson River Stage or the “Blue Cube”. The presentation, slated for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 35 Alexander Street in Yonkers, is sponsored by RCS and is part of the ongoing RiverTalks series hosted by Beczak Environmental Education Center.
The Dec. 11 RiverTalk is open to the public and admission is free, courtesy of the RCS sponsorship. The session will chronicle the history of the Hudson River Stage, and Adler will share stories, photos and clips from movies filmed at the Stage such as “Kate and Leopold”, “The Stepford Wives”, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, “Zoolander” and more. For additional information about the “Hollywood on the Hudson” RiverTalk, contact sjuggernauth@beczak.org or 914-377-1900 ext. 13.
“Taking a vacant industrial site and creating a ‘Hollywood on the Hudson’ was a magical undertaking that gave new life to the City of Yonkers and the shores of the majestic Hudson River,” said Adler.
The Hudson River Stage’s 14-acre waterfront property at One Point Street is also known as 233 Alexander St. Once a thriving electrical cable manufacturing plant, its doors were closed in 1996. Blackacre Partners (of which Adler co-founded with environmental lawyer Debra Rothberg), successfully repurposed and revived the property as a film stage and production facility that was later purchased by Miramax, Robert DeNiro, and Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff of Tribeca Films. From 1999 – 2005, the Stage served as the filming location for major motion pictures including “The Stepford Wives” and “Zoolander”.
Bout the Beczak Environmental Education Center
Beczak Environmental Education Center is an indoor/outdoor interpretive site that presents exhibits and programs for all ages to raise environmental awareness and to encourage informed stewardship of rivers.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation calls Beczak’s rehabilitated property an “environmental recovery success story”. Located on the banks of the Hudson in the City of Yonkers, at River Mile 18, this spacious interpretive center is an adaptive reuse of the former social club for Habirshaw Cable & Wire Co. Its two-acre park features a welcoming riverfront lawn, an easily accessible tidal marsh and a beach used for river exploration and seining.
Beczak educators work with approximately 20,000 children and families each year through in-school river education programs, field trips at its riverfront center, after school environmental clubs, and public programs including River Explorers and Fish Tales for children, RiverTalks lectures and Urban H20 concerts for adults, Lunchtime Learning for seniors, Summer Adventures camp, and professional development for educators.
